Before starting his recording career, Grammy-winning artist Ne-Yo was a chart topping songwriter for such artists as Mary J. Blige and Celine Dion. He then earned rave reviews for his platinum debut album "In My Own Words." Ne-Yo began writing at an early age and looked to Sammy Davis, Jr. as his idol. He also expresses his creativity through acting, painting and martial arts. He recently played himself in a guest spot on ABC's All My Children, performing a track from his new release, "Year of the Gentleman."

My friend, Justice, and her music group are in the local paper in London. I am really proud of her! I told her I would knock over my penny bank to go to London to see her perform! It is with great disappointment that the PRINCE concert scheduled to take place at Croke Park next Monday 16th June 2008 will no longer be taking place due to reasons beyond the control of PRINCE and MCD Productions.

Barackula is a short political horror rock musical about young Barack Obama having to stave off a secret society of vampires at Harvard when he was inducted into presidency at the Harvard Law Review in 1990. Obama (Justin Sherman) finds that he must convince the vampire society that opposing political philosophies can coexist or else the society may transform Obama to the dark side. Reminiscent to Michael Jackson's Thriller, and a slight infusion of Jesus Christ Superstar, this short film offers two original musical numbers, "Running" and "This Is Our Time," which, lyrically, are allegorical to Obama's current campaign and speeches. The film solely depicts Obama’s strengths, merits and genuineness while being quietly respectful towards the other presidential candidates. This short musical (run time approx. 10 min) is highly entertaining with dancing Harvard student vampires, fantastic choreography by Victor Tang and Sherman’s physical likeness to Obama is remarkable. Nine years later, Tollett has finally realized that dream with the announcement that Prince will headline the second night of this year’s festival -- Saturday, April 26 -- at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.Asked how long he’s been trying to book the legenadary performer, the head of the Los Angeles-based Goldenvoice replied, "Since 1999. I’ve always wanted Prince."But Prince wasn’t available for the first Coachella in 1999. Back then he was known as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince -- a protest against his publishing contract with Warner-Chappell. Word that Goldenvoice was negotiating with Prince for this year's bill leaked on some blogs several weeks ago, but Tollett said, "It was never a negotiation -- just a discussion." He said those discussions have continued off and on all year.

The song was written in 1970 by Dennis Wilson and Jack Rieley and originally intended for their album Surf's Up "as a veiled comment on the alleged suppression of the NY Times by the US government ... but was pulled by Dennis after an argument with brother Carl over sequencing the album" (source).

On Saturday March 8th Alex won an Indie Award at Canada Music Week which was celebrated at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Canada. The Award was in the category of favourite world album for his latest release Agua Del Pozo. This was a fan voted category through Sympatico MSN's Indiscover portal. Howlin' Pelle and The Hives are back with a new album called The Black and White Album and it goes on sale tomorrow (November 13th) in the US. I've no idea why the album was pushed back to November, considering that Europe released the album on October 15th. These guys are from Fagersta, Sweden, and I first heard about them through their big hit single: "Hate to Told You So". It wasn't until "Main Offender" did I realized these guys can really rock. Their appearance on Jools Holland was equally energic and hilarious, especially when Pelle said this during the song:

I’m sorry, what was that you said? Oh, “first annual”? Although it’s not officially an annual event yet, I am hoping that if it comes off as well as I think it will that we’ll all want to do it again and again as a yearly event. Well, that is my wish and desire anyway.

“Guilt by Association” is a whole album of guilty pleasures re-sung by un or little-known indie darlings. When I was mentally putting the play list together, I heard this song on Jodi's Vox and couldn’t stop listening to it.
